A skid plate is a piece of material (usually made from plastic or aluminium) that is placed over the base of your bike to prevent debris such as rocks or sticks from being hurled into your bike’s inner workings as you ride. Foam or rubber is also incorporated in select designs to minimise the noise of debris bouncing off the skid plate itself as you ride.
